My name is Monica Fastenau, and I’m an editor and proofreader. I have an eye for detail and am a stickler for proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. I have experience editing full-length books as well as shorter academic papers, and I enjoy making others’ words as polished and perfect as possible. Because I take on few projects at a time, I am able to offer personal attention and up-to-the-minute feedback. You can have as much or as little participation in the editing process as you’d like—it’s up to you!

If you’re planning to self-publish your writing, I would love to proofread or edit your book. After working on your book for months, if not years, it can be frustrating and overwhelming to nitpick at your work in an attempt to polish it to perfection. That’s where I come in! I will go over your work with a fine-toothed comb so you don’t have to. I have experience with editing full-length books as well as academic papers, and my eye for detail enables me to catch small mistakes and typos. Because I maintain a book review blog in which I review the overall plot, structure, and clarity of the books I read, I also have plenty of experience in making sure that a written piece flows well as a whole.

For more information, contact me at monica@newberyandbeyond.com with your questions. If you include the word count and the number of edits you would like for your book (I generally suggest two), I’ll be able to send you a time and cost estimate within a couple of days!

If you’re interested in learning more about the process of working with me, check out my blog post about how it works.

References from previous clients:

“Beginning a rough draft of a new novel shortly after the release of your last is like jumping into a mud pit right after a shower. You’re all the more aware of flaws in your writing because you’ve become used to the polished prose of a finished manuscript. Monica’s edit of the first few scenes of my story gave me hope for its future. She gently pointed out where sentence structure could be improved and a change of wording could enhance the flow of the story. She also ferreted out the plethora of punctuation errors that plague my rough drafts. I’ll definitely be considering her for future editing needs!”  –Leah Good, author of Counted Worthy

“I am extremely satisfied with the quality and timeliness of the work of Monica. She has edited my book with great skills and has improved my book significantly. I plan to continue working with her for my future projects. I highly recommend her and have already done so to some of my friends.  Monica did the proofreading of my book, after doing the editing. She was able to not only find a few errors here and there, but was also inspired to improve again some sentences. I would gladly work with her on my next book project.”  –Michel Dion

“Monica is very courteous and always finishes her work in a very timely manner. I have had her do proofreading for me twice already and have been more than pleased with the outcome. Highly recommend her work.”  –Misty Griffin
